MCCI Conclave on Rural Development: A Dialogue on Building a Stronger Rural Bengal- as Guest Dr. Siddhartha Pandey

Kolkata, 12 August 2026 — Dr. Siddhartha Pandey, CEO of HRD India, attended the MCCI Conclave on Rural Development, organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) on 12 August 2026. The conclave brought together prominent leaders, policymakers, industry representatives and stakeholders to deliberate on the opportunities and challenges associated with rural development in West Bengal.

The event was graced by Shri Dilip Ghosh, who attended as the Chief Guest, while Shri Dudh Kumar Mondal, Minister of Agriculture, Government of West Bengal, was the Guest of Honour. Their presence added significant importance to the discussions around agriculture, rural economic development and the role of industry in strengthening the rural ecosystem.

The conclave focused on the need for a more integrated approach to rural development, where agriculture, employment, entrepreneurship, skill development, infrastructure and technology can work together to create sustainable economic opportunities.

Dr. Siddhartha Pandey’s participation reflected his continued interest in matters concerning human capital, employment generation, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth. With rural India undergoing significant transformation, developing the right skills and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities remain critical to building a stronger workforce and a more resilient economy.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between the Government, industry, educational institutions and local communities. Such partnerships can help bridge skill gaps, promote rural entrepreneurship, encourage investment and create new employment opportunities beyond traditional agricultural activities.

For West Bengal, rural development presents a significant opportunity to unlock the potential of its large talent base and agricultural economy. Investments in skill development, modern agricultural practices, technology adoption, MSMEs and rural infrastructure can play an important role in creating sustainable growth.

The MCCI Conclave served as a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and perspectives on how rural Bengal can become more economically vibrant and self-reliant. The participation of leaders from government and industry reinforced the importance of collective action in achieving meaningful and sustainable rural development.

Dr. Pandey’s presence at the conclave further underscored the importance of placing people, skills and human development at the centre of the rural growth agenda. As India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, empowering rural communities and creating opportunities for inclusive participation will remain an essential part of the journey.

The conclave concluded with a strong message: rural development is not merely an agricultural agenda—it is a broader economic and human development opportunity that requires collaboration, innovation and sustained commitment from all stakeholders.
